About the African Union “AU” Summit

This continental summit takes place every year, and is a major driving force for promoting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Member States and to promote international cooperation within the framework of the United Nations.

The vision of the African  Union is: “An integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa,  driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in  global arena.”

Venue: New Conference Center of the African Union (AUCC), Addis Ababa – Ethiopia

Theme: The theme of the Summit is: “Year of Women’s Empowerment and Development towards Africa’s Agenda 2063”

Timetable:

23-24 January 2015: Twenty Ninth (29th) Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC)
Venue: Medium Conference Hall /AUCC

26-27 January 2015: Twenty Six (26th) Ordinary Session of the Executive Council
Venue: Large Conference Hall (plenary) /AUCC

30-31 January 2015: Twenty Fourth (24th) Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

The AU Summit and Business Flights Information:

  • An expected 60 or more aircraft arriving during this period with up to 150 total movements
  • No current NOTAMS have been issued, however restricted and prohibited airspaces will be strictly monitored and enforced by Ethiopian Air Force
  • VIP flights to follow standard procedures for landing permits, no slots required, however landing and slot requests must be submitted at least 3 working days prior to your operation as there will be a high traffic of flights within this period. Overnight parking at HAAB is very restrictive due to limited space, and will most likely have to reposition.
  • Diplomatic flights to the AU will have to process the landing permit through the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Visas

  • Holders of Diplomatic Passports along with letter of attending Summit as a delegate will be granted visa on arrival.
  • Citizens of countries where there is no Ethiopian Consulate will be required to have a letter from Ethiopian Ministry of Immigration granting visa on arrival
  • Citizens from following countries are eligible for visa on arrival: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea Republic, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States.
